Jackals Dream is getting a make over! It started as a touch up, but it’s getting shiny, nice, clean and fresh. The braai looks like new with the new grid, the walls are painted again, the bench on the rooftop has a new coat and the pump for the jojo has its gage. Now we hope we won’t have any issues with the geysers when the water pressure in Marloth drops. Over the years we learned a lot about hospitality and renting out our holiday home in Marloth Park. As we feel responsible and are worried about climate change we try and do our best to respect our surroundings. So one of the things we did was install a solar geyser. We thought, so much sun, hot water all day long, sustainable: perfect. We learned our lesson! Climate change also has it’s effects in South Africa and in combination with hospitality our solar geyser appeared to be insufficient. So we updated our system. The hot water comes mainly from the sun, but when the sun doesn’t shine, we have a back up system. This is our garden. It is not the standard landscaped garden you can find in other towns. Some visitors think we don’t give our garden the love and attention it should have. But actually we do as Marloth Park is a nature conservancy we respect. For us this means we try our best to restore and preserve the original state of this unique place which begins in our own backyard. The biggest part of our land is for the animals and the plants that belong here. We leave the fallen leaves lying on the ground to preserve nutrients and prevent evaporation, we take away alien (invasive) plants and we give space to plants that belong here. Well it kept knocking on the front door for quite a while when Jackals Dream was finished, as he still wanted to come in and sleep inside. No wildlife, not a nice image of how great Jackals Dream looks that makes you dream about a perfect holiday in the bush, but it shows our… (drums please!): inverter!! I added sparkles to make it more attractive. Did it work? The caption could have been simple actually: Jackals Dream has an inverter to ease the (dark) hours of loadshedding! When the power shuts down the batteries take over so the lights and fans will stay on.
